A note about me, accountability and repair:
I have long been a student of abolition, anti-racism, disability justice and decolonization. Detoxing and dismantling oppression within myself and the systems and culture I am a part of is an everyday practice of “doing the work” and fighting for the more just and equitable world that we all deserve.
I understand that the toxic impacts of these systems land differently and disproportionately on Black, Indigenous, People of Color. Because privilege and oppression only happen in relationship, so does healing and justice. Therefore, equity, repair and healing for white people especially happens in relationship, solidarity and accountability with communities who are most impacted by systems of oppression. One of the ways I practice accountability is by offering attribution and reparations to the long lineage of first responders, healers, activists and organizers that I have and continue to learn from. This particular mentor program will be supporting Being Black, Healing Black, an extraordinary gathering that will bring together Black Leaders & Titans through a public nomination process to experience a radically reimagined approach to confronting the legacy of, contending with, and ultimately, healing race. It is a part of a larger vision called Healing Race Portal (HRP) which was conceived of by Rev. angel Kyodo williams, and will be developed as an experiential journey through racialization, carrying the history-sharing of Legacy forward to return home to the body where healing must take place.
